Annual Report (2022-2023)

The Concordia Parish Special Education Advisory Council (SEAC) met on the following dates:

  • March 28, 2023 @ 1:00pm

  • April 25, 2023 @ 1:00pm

  • May 23, 2023 @ 1:00 pm

Positive outcomes from 2022-2023 APS SEAC committee members:

  • New CPSB SEAC members for 2022-2023 due to guidelines with the new update about

    parent members (not employed by CPSB)

  • Recommendations for ideas possible starting a Pep squad for students with disabilities

    to join to cheer at home football games.

  • Revised website for Special Education – CPSB - Special Education Advisory Council

    (SEAC) increased web presence with online resources and information (ability to update

    frequently)

  • Resources for parents/awareness and information on inclusion

  • Recommendation to increase advertising for SEAC meetings

March 28, 2023 Meeting Highlights

SEAC Members present: Ashley Prunty, Felicia Wilson, Toyua Bachus, Loretta Blankenstein, Glenda Jones, Kimberly Johnese; Cindy Smith Absent- Erica Carter, Julie White, and Dr. Brenda Moore. Other participant Frances Lee

Discussion:

  • Introduction of SEAC members.

  • Went over new changes in ACT 274.

  • Discussed Cameras in the Special Education Classroom/Settings Procedures in Concordia Parish

    Schools.

  • Discussed all upcoming events and set future SEAC meeting dates for this school year.

  • Discussed concerns about making sure parents with students with disabilities know what all

    activities events that are happening at each of the schools. School website need to be updated.

  • Special Populations website will be updated with Special Education Cameras link where policy

    and forms will be in. Also, a link for CPSB SEAC were all minutes and end of the year report will

    be located for all public to review and information about CPSB SEAC.

  • Information was handed out about CARC Work Activity Center located in Jonesville, La. that

    serves individuals who have developmental disabilities (18 years of age or older) that live in

    Concordia Parish.

April 25, 2023 Meeting Highlights

SEAC Members present: Ashley Prunty, Julie White, Dr. Brenda Moore ; Kimberly Johnese; Cindy Smith

Discussions:

  • Shared a recap of the CPSB Special Olympics Day hosted at Vidalia High School and a video was

    shared of all the activities that took place that day.

  • Shared the updated CPSB Special Populations page and link. Also shared the link with forms

    and polices for cameras in special education classrooms that is also on CPSB Special populations

    page.

  • Presentation and information shared on the topic of inclusion at SEAC meeting. Questions

    about inclusion were asked and discussed to get all stalk holders’ opinions and so that all

    present at this meeting would learn more about inclusion. (more detail in April SEAC meeting

    minutes)

  • Discussed upcoming events of PD that special education teachers would be having and next

    SEAC Meeting May 23rd .

  • Discussed having a pep squad that special needs student could join to cheer at home football

    games.

May 23, 2023 Meeting Highlights

SEAC members present: Dr. Brenda Moore; Julie White; Ashley Prunty; Cindy Smith

Discussions:

  • Did a recap of all that has been discussed at previous SEAC meetings this year.

  • Discussed and shared information about I-Ready Program and that it will be continued to be

    used next school year. It will not only be used with just special education classes, but will be

    used in grades 3rd -8th (math and reading ) in all schools here in Concordia Parish this upcoming

    school year.

  • Summer resources were shared and discussed at meeting. Some resources are The Families H

    elping Families and shared some great free webinars for parents. Also shared resources from

    Accessible Educational Materials (AEM).

  • Discussed changing time of SEAC meetings to hopefully increase number of participants

    attending meetings.
